I first learned how to use a camera when I tried to start an online shop selling handmade doll clothes.
Yes, doll clothes, but that’s a whole other story. While doing market research, I noticed that some dresses sold for $5 while others sold for $800! Why was there such a huge discrepancy?! I noticed that stores with better photos were able to demand more money, but I couldn’t afford to hire a photographer yet as a start up, so I learned how to take better photos myself. Professional looking photos was how I was able to elevate my brand and demand hundreds of dollars for each of my doll outfits… and also how I realized that I actually enjoyed photography much more than sewing.
My fancy camera became a household item that I confidently used to document everything from my children, family travel, and now my photography business!

FROM DOLL CLOTHES TO INTERNATIONALLY PUBLISHED PHOTOGRAPHER
In my last failed business attempt (there were three), I was hand sewing doll clothes and figured out a way to market them for $800 an outfit. What was the secret? For starters, BETTER PHOTOS! I noticed that shops with better photos were able to charge more, so that's what motivated me to learn how to take better photos! I soon learned that my passion was actually in photography (and storytelling) rather than sewing, but what started as a skill I learned for my doll clothes business ended up resulting in a thriving photography business where I'm flown all around the world to share my passion.
